Back in Ye Olde Victorian times, FASHION was extremely important. Colors were expensive and fashion dictated what you wore. Green was a hard pigment to come by. In 1775 a new green dye was finally invented. It was all the rage, and called Paris Green. It was, unfortunately, made from Arsenic. It became all the color de rigueur and was used in everything from clothing, to wallpaper and home textiles. People loved it, even though MANY got really sick from the dye and died. These were The Fashions that Kill! We wanted to harken back to a time when things were simpler, and fears were too. We want everyone to come for the night and enjoy themselves. Deck your self out in GREEN!! There will be PRIZES for the best COSTUMES.

We will have a photographer onsite with a Luscious Backdrop and set, and you can purchase a photo for yourself and friends.

Among the most versatile musicians and producers of his generation, Terrace Martin has worked extensively with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Lalah Hathaway, and Herbie Hancock, and as a leader has a Grammy nomination to show for his creative synthesis of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop. The first record the young Martin bought was EPMD's single "You Gots to Chill." While his love of hip-hop continued to grow, he also began to appreciate jazz through his father, a drummer. After playing keyboards for several years as a teenager, Martin picked up the saxophone and within a few years landed a gig with P. Diddy. Shortly thereafter, he began a long-term association with Snoop Dogg and gained a college scholarship via Jay Leno after the Tonight Show Band's Kevin Eubanks heard his playing.

Martin kicked off his production career in 2004 with work for 213, Shawnna, and others, and in 2005 he worked with a pair of West Coast legends, landing a track with Warren G along with three cuts on the collection Bigg Snoop Dogg Presents: Welcome to tha Chuuch - Da Album. Snoop also gave Martin his first production credit on a single when "Neva Have 2 Worry" dropped in 2008. That same year he released the mixtape Locke High with DJ Drama as host. The year 2010 saw him partnering with DJ Devi Dev on the mixtape Here, My Dear. In 2011 he joined forces with rapper Murs for Are Melrose, and worked with Devi Dev on the Sex EP. The next year, Martin contributed to Kendrick Lamar's breakthrough, good kid, m.A.A.d city. His first solo album, 3ChordFold, arrived in 2013 with appearances from Lamar, Snoop, Ab-Soul, Robert Glasper, and others.

During the next few years, Martin racked up an assortment of credits on albums by Lamar, Big K.R.I.T., Travi$ Scott, Ty Dolla $ign, and YG, among others. Signed to the Ropeadope label, he released Velvet Portraits in 2016. Featuring Glasper, Thundercat, and Lalah Hathaway, the album's relaxed grooves were recognized with a Grammy nomination in the category of Best R&B Album. Continued studio sessions and live activity with numerous collaborators, including Herbie Hancock, preceded 2017's Sounds of Crenshaw, Vol. 1. Credited to the Pollyseeds, it was another multi-genre work, and involved the likes of Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and Rose Gold.

Rapsody is a GRAMMY nominated North Carolina emcee signed with super producer, 9th Wonder for Jamla Records, and JAY-Z's Roc Nation.

With several projects, a critically acclaimed debut album in 2012, and the lone guest rap feature on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, she is quickly establishing herself as one of the best emcees of this generation. In just a short time, she has worked with some of the biggest legends and newcomers, ranging from Erykah Badu, Raekwon, Big Daddy Kane, and Marsha Ambrosius to Estelle, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, and Big K.R.I.T., to name some.

In 2015, while in LA working on her sophomore album, Rapsody met Dr. Dre, who ended up cosigning her via video and called her "his new favorite female emcee". Rapsody started 2016 with a standout verse on Anderson .Paak's acclaimed debut album, Malibu." She would follow up with a GRAMMY nomination for her contribution to Kendrick Lamar's sophomore album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Rapsody was invited to the White House by President Barack Obama and Herbie Hancock to perform at the International Jazz Fest and graced the stage alongside Aretha Franklin, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Terri Lyne Carrington in honor of the late Prince.

2017 was Rapsody's biggest year yet, as she solidified her place in songwriting and music with the release of Laila's Wisdom. The project went on to earn her a nomination for Best Rap Song, and made Rapsody the only female nominee for Best Rap Album at the 60th GRAMMY Awards- and only the 5th ever in the category's 23-year history.

RAPSODY released her new album Eve in August of 2019 to immense critical acclaim, debuting at number 76 on the Billboard 200.

SPOONBILL + OLOX IN PDX: Wonkadelic glitch-funk from Down Under meets Siberian neo-shamanic soundscapes for an evening of music that inspires, moves, and heals.

Intentionally bringing an Arctic blast from above to the fires Down Under, the lands of the respective artists communicate to us through their musical articulations.

SPOONBILL

Australian musician and famed sound designer Jim Moynihan “Spoonbill” is returning to the States after a ten-year hiatus with his signature Wonkadelic downtempo glitch-funk further refined and more deeply grooved into a rhythmic pocket on his newest release “Canopy.”

A gifted percussionist with a degree in industrial design, Spoonbill ventured out of the Outback with a sampler and a DIY aesthetic employing handclaps, sirens, doorbells, champagne froth, and crushed eggshells mixed with slide guitar, oboe, harp, trumpet, and whistles for glitch-hop that appeals to dancers and listeners alike.

“I wanted to write a more downtempo-based follow up to my  'Tinkerbox' album, so ['Canopy'] has some of the same flavours. It's a fusion of live recordings but electronica as well. Those 'humanous' touches, for me, add a different type of soul or feel to the music which I enjoy.”

Spoonbill is a restless sonic author constantly defying genres and experimenting with the potential of the vast sonic canvas. He has carved a unique niche within contemporary electronic music, building a worldwide reputation for his idiosyncratic sound design and richly textured high production values.

OLOX

Wildly appreciated at their Beloved debut this summer, Olox performs in Portland for the very first time.

Olox is the creative union between Andreas Jones and Zarina Kopyrina which is a fusion of heart rhythms and electronic sounds mixed with ethnic songs from the native Sakha people from Siberia characterized by animal, bird and deep nature vocals.

The duo offers an “experience of the past, living in the present, and desirable future of people of all existing races, nationalities, religious and other faiths…a harmonious texture of rhythms, voice and traditional instruments with innovative electronic technologies.”

Captivating visually and utterly arresting musically, Olox crafts an experience deeply resonant with true circumpolar shamanic culture influence. This duo approaches their performance as community ritual: traversing between lower, middle, and higher realms to confront duality and transform the listener.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of cross-cultural collaboration, sound healing, and danceable grooves like you’ve never experienced before.

LDW (performing Talking Heads & Original Music)

In the summer of 2013 a group of Portland, Oregon musicians got together around the love of Talking Heads music. Especially that of the epic 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, which they consider to be the most brilliant concert film of all time. They began to perform with a 7-piece lineup that was inspired by that particular movie and time period. “There was so much funkiness, movement, and excitement to the music in that movie and we just knew it would get people excited and feel fresh” says Lawrence Orleck, co-founder and singer in the band.

Audiences keep coming back to see LDW. Not only for their exuberant interpretations of the legendary Talking Heads, but also for their original music, improvisation, choreography and the random experiences they deliver at every one of their shows. In a matter of 2 years they were playing to sold out shows all over the west coast and found themselves with the question: “What’s next?”

The upcoming Album – Movement in a spirited manner

For LDW, every performance matters, and, it’s that mantra, that has the band in the studio recording their first album, Movement in a spirited manner. “We were so inspired by playing David Byrne’s music for 3 years that we found ourselves in the studio writing this album and it just naturally fit into our set. That’s our evolution and trajectory. But, yes, we still play a ton of talking heads because, plain and simple, it’s fun.” We named it Movement in a spirited manner because for the last 3 years we have been enthralled with the excitement and motion of our fans. They get down, big time.” Lawrence muses.

ELDRIDGE GRAVY & THE COURT SUPREME

Eldrige Gravey & The Court Supreme is a funk juggernaut. Backed by the hot, gritty orchestration of the 13 member Court Supreme, front man Eldridge Gravy easily works dance floors to a fever pitch with his full-bore performance and smooth rapport with the audience.

In 2017, the group released their self-titled fourth studio album. Recorded by Jason Gray of Polyrhythmics & Blue Mallard Studios, mixed by Floyd Reitsma at Studio Litho.

Over the past few years EG&tCS have headlined practically every prestigious venue in Seattle and Portland, including Crocodile, Neumos, Tractor Tavern, Showbox, Doug Fir Lounge, and Star Theater. They have also ruthlessly funked thousands of festivalgoers at Bumbershoot, the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, and July 4th at Gasworks Park.

Star Theater is opening its doors for a fresh showcase of Portland's underground electronic music talents, including live sets, and a special guest!
